Fairies and Pumpkins

Happy Halloween Everyone!!

This year was highly anticipated by many. Carmen talked about dressing up and trick or treating for weeks now. Rose, well... could care less, but lets pretend that she cared. But colds and bad weather threatened our planned outings. As the evening arrived Carmen became seriously distracted. I finally gave in and dressing up began!

Carmen thoroughly loved this whole process!! We did her hair, plastered her face with sparkles and a touch of blush and away we go! She ran for the front door and didn't look back. We were pretty early so alot of homes weren't ready, but she was unstoppable and continued for about 45 minutes. She was such a big girl!! She even managed to say "thank you" 90 percent of the time!!!

Rose didn't go out, she was a little sicker than Carmen, and lets be realistic, she wont miss out this year. But she was adorable in her pumpkin outfit and so helped Mokey hand out candy. Each time the doorbell rang she ran for the front door.. I can see this being a problem further down the road.

We took a small video especially for daddy, so enjoy!!! its cute, and very typical of an evening for us in the Lawson household. We miss you Daddy and can't wait for your return!

The weekend warriors

So this weekend I headed out with some friends, some old, some new.. but now I can definately call them all good friends!! We went to the beach for a girls weekend of talking, laughing, fellowshiping and well.... stuff.

Honestly at first I was not sure I wanted to go. I had many excuses, all of them decent reasons to back out, but as time grew closer they seemed to take care of themselves.
We headed out Friday evening with Me, Emily, Barbara, Katie and Alyssa. The car ride down to Pacific City seemed much shorter with "girl talk" filling the van. Once there we struggled to get the front door open. We knew that the water had been turned off to the house and Katie was destined to go under the house to turn it back on. It only took us 2 hours and 4 phone calls to various people to get it up and running!

The next day was much less eventful, well till dinner time came around. We spent the day at the beach (it was windy and cold and clear) then went window shopping and then spent the afternoon hanging out and talking. But after Emily spent time putting together enchilada's for dinner it was realised that the oven stopped working. Another round of phone calls and tests confirmed that, well it didnt work. Microwave to the rescue!!! LOL

That evening was fun, filled with laughter, story swapping... and makeup of course!!! The next day we set about cleaning up and trying to get on the road home. Well... that was the plan, a quick wash of sheets and comforter ended up in a broken washer, us carrying the comforter throughout the house and then the "white trash race" of removing the water from the washer, cup by cup!!! Now it might sound like I am complaining, but its more of a testiment that we had a great time, and were determined to do just that HAVE FUN!!!

We made our way back to the beach on Sunday morning, but it made leaving all the harder. It was 77 degree's, no wind and just beautiful!!! After dragging our feet through the sand we made our way home... said our goodbye's and made promises that we would do this again... but maybe closer to home, where things work...

Jenny Apple-seed

On a tangent we go again.. this time down the hole to apple sauce. This one came about because I had a bag (about 13 apples) become ripe all at the same time. What to do? When life hands to ripe apples, you make applesauce of course!!!

I already had the canning supplies, borrowed my moms killer "apple/peeler/slicer/corer, pulled out my handy dandy hand blender and away we go.. only one hiccup in the process, I didn't realise that I didn't have any ground cinnamon so well, I got to hand grate some. It made the house smell amazing AND was much better than the preground stuff, so I would gladly do it again, but just with a micro plainer this time.

So for about two hours work I got two quarts of home made apple sauce. I would recommend this process to anyone, the taste is so much better and well its literally apples and cinnamon, how much better can you get than that?

Sacred ground

As kids grow older, bigger and more complex, parents have to give up more and more control... sadly this weekend I had to do just that...

Kids these day... I swear...

Rubber Gloves

So while at the Neurologist's this morning (we were there to get some much needed answers and reassurances that we were still going down the right road in Carmen's health) I discussed that she has a seizure every time we draw blood. They were surprised to here that.

Now from a Mom's point of view it isn't unreasonable to think that a three year old would have issues when she KNOWS that she is going to get poked in the arm and that will hurt. The poor thing has had her blood drawn at least 6 times in the last 4 months add to that an MRI which she was put under for AND an EEG that, well it was traumatic for everyone involved.

So keeping that in mind, whenever she see's someone "glove up" she starts to freak out... surprised? I'm not.. I haven't taken her to the dentist for just that reason, its gonna be awkward enough for her the first time, but add a phobia of rubber gloves to the mix... fun times...

Anyhoo, they recommended that I try desensitizing her. SO they gave me a handful of gloves in a rainbow of colors to wear around the house so she can see Mommy wearing gloves and it isnt scary. To top it off they handed her a nifty pair of purple ones!! Excitement filled the air, she held them as if she was holding a scorpian, too funny... but by the time we made it to the car she wanted to wear her cool new pair of gloves. I put them on her and she yelled at the top of her lounges "HA HA I AM A DOC-TOR, WEEJEE, WEEJEE" she smiled sweetly at me and decided that the cars out the window were more exciting, crossing her arms on her lap... still gloved.

Somewhere on the way home the gloves were removed but once in the house she insisted on putting them back on. She happily ate her "chickin nugget n jo-jo's" with them on. I left to get PJ's for Rose, and came back down to see Carmen slap Rose with her gloved hand yelling "No, my doctor gloves, not yours!"

Well there you go... a phobia fixed!!! at least I hope so. We will find out late next week...

Snow Day

Like I mentioned it has snowed for two days straight. and well that might not sound like a lot, but for someone who has spent the last 4 years in TX and two little girls who have never seen snow this was quite the experience!

Rose only lasted about three minutes and then got snow on her hands... that was it. Carmen however didnt want to go inside, even after brided with hot chocolate AND cookies!!! Uncle Travis even came out and played in the snow, and taught Carmen the "proper" way of creating a snowball, very important information for a three year old.

Rosemarys first and last experience with snow...

Carmen loved every moment of the snow and didnt seem to notice the cold or the wetness that covered over half of her body...

Uncle Travis, Jen and Carmen... oh so cold...

Montana

So we drove 12 hours to visit my brother in Great Falls Montana... now the drive was less than fun, BUT its been a blast since we got here. Travis has a lovely house and we are taking over every inch of it! It snowed on the drive there but it wasnt too bad and the weather the first day was great, 55 and sunny.. however things changed to cold... and snowy on Saturday, and now Sunday... and it doesnt show any sign of stopping. If I can figure out how to add video and pictures to this I will add them.

Rose loved being out in the cold, she was an adorable little pumpkin!

Carmen thought the leaf pile was the greatest invention, and had to be bribed to go back inside. :0)

Ok, well it seemed that everyone enjoyed the leaf pile...
